An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 14" x 21 3/4" [36 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) George Wallace was an American politician from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was a judge in Alabama known as "Alabama's Fighting Judge", and in 1963, he was elected the 45th governor of Alabama and served two non-consecutive terms and two consecutive terms and ran for President in 1968. He is probably most known for his Southern populist and segregationist attitudes during the desegregation period and for surviving a 1972 assassination attempt which left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. Wallace passed away in 1998 at the age of 79. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this was an incredibly significant campaign, because it was the very last time that ANY third party candidate won electoral votes because of the vote of the people (Wallace won five southern states, and he received ten million votes and 46 electoral votes). Since then, there have been a few single token electoral votes cast for third party candidates, but that is all, as the U.S. remains firmly a two-party system with power passing back and forth between the two parties. Also, Wallace, an ultra right wing candidate who believed in segregation, was popular in parts of the South, but intensely unpopular in many other parts of the country. This poster has the slogan "Stand Up for America" on it, and we have seen references to a pro-Nazi and white supremacist group called "Liberty Lobby" being behind this slogan. After three failed attempts to run for President of the U.S., Wallace was shot five times on his fourth campaign in 1972 by an attempted assassin, and he survived, but he was paralyzed from the waist down, and he lived 26 more years, passing away in 1998. Also, note that this poster is printed on the exact same paper stock as that of window cards from this period and that it measures 14" x 21 3/4". Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
