An Original Vintage Linenbacked Polish Circus Poster (measures 26 1/4" x 37 3/4" [67 x 96 cm]) (Learn More) Cyrk (literally translates to "Circus"), the Polish circus poster featuring great artwork. Contemporary Polish circus posters emerged in 1962 as a genre of the Polish School of Posters. They are characterized by their display of aesthetic qualities such as painterly gestures, linear design, hand-lettering, metaphors, humor, and vibrant colors. Usually based on a single theme and meant to be advertisements, they were created in an attempt to interest the passerby in the upcoming circus. However, they proved so popular that some were reprinted and sold directly to the public and we list those as commercial posters. Artist: Bohdan Bocianowski Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had a few scuffs in the upper right of the image, but otherwise was in nice good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting.
