Date Sold 8/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 33 3/4" x 47" [86 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Symphonie Eines Lebens (literally translates to "Symphony of Life"), the 1943 Hans Bertram German doomed romance melodrama (about a church choir leader who has a loving wife and children, but he meets a beautiful countess and falls madly in love with her and completely wrecks his life for her, and after he marries her, he sees her dancing with a young man and kills the man in a fit of jealousy, and spends twelve years in prison, and when he is released, his former wife is dying, but she tells him to never see their now grown children, so they can remember him how he was!) starring Henny Porten, Gisela Uhlen, Harry Baur, Harald Paulsen, Albert Florath, and Julia Serda. Note that the movie is divided into four sections to resemble the "movements" of a symphony, so it is telling the "symphony" of this man's tragic life. Also note that it appears this movie was never released in the U.S., which makes sense because it was made in Nazi Germany during World War II. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned a single German movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this poster (which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie!). It was printed in Germany during World War II. There are very few German movie posters from during World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. It is likely that German posters from during the Nazi era are even more rare than those from before that era, because most of those that survived the war would have been destroyed right after the war! Condition: fair. The folds have substantially darkened and they have mostly all separated. Someone backed the folds with clear tape, which serves to hold the poster together. The art is "mostly all there" and certainly a top restorer could "rescue" this very rare poster, but bear all of this and the cost of restoration in mind before bidding.
