An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] News Photo (Learn More) Norman Rockwell was an American painter and illustrator from the 1910s to the 1970s. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series. He is also noted for his 64-year relationship with the Boy Scouts of America. Rockwell's work was dismissed by serious art critics in his lifetime, and many of his works appear overly sweet in the opinion of modern critics. In his later years, however, Rockwell began receiving more attention as a painter when he chose more serious subjects such as the series on racism for Look magazine. One example of this more serious work is The Problem We All Live With, which dealt with the issue of school racial integration. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 84. AND Ruth Hussey was an actress from the 1930s to the 1970s. Some of her movies include: The Philadelphia Story (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), The Women, and the Uninvited. She passed away in 2005 at the age of 93. Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful news photo shows Norman Rockwell painting an image of 75 year old movie veteran Charlie Sadler that he was using in one of his classic Saturday Evening Post covers, and actress Ruth Hussey is by his side, literally "learning from the master"!
