An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Crimson City, the 1928 Archie Mayo silent Asian white slavery romantic love triangle interracial romantic melodrama ("Based on the story by Anthony Coldeway"; about a beautiful Asian girl who is supposed to be sold to a wealthy elderly Mandarin man, but she falls in love with a handsome young American, but they can't be together because they are of different races, so the Asian girl leaves her lover so he can marry his white girlfriend) starring Myrna Loy, John Miljan, Leila Hyams, Sojin, Matthew Betz, Richard Tucker, and Anna May Wong. Note that interracial romances were quite popular in the 1920s, and were considered "forbidden", so the interracial lovers almost never ended up together (and often, one or both of them died tragically). Also note that American-born Myrna Loy had become typecast in "exotic" (often Asian) roles at this time, and the producers of the movie felt she would be more acceptable in this part to audiences than the actual Asian Anna May Wong, who certainly would have been much more suitible for this part, and actually appeared in the movie in a minor role!
