eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 3m482 GAY FALCON LC '41 George Sanders between Wendy Barrie & Nina Vale, first of the series! Date Sold 9/6/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Gay Falcon, the 1941 Irving Reis detective mystery crime thriller ("From the story by Michael Arlen"; this is the first of the sixteen movies in The Falcon series) starring George Sanders (in the title role as The Falcon), Wendy Barrie, Allen Jenkins, Nina Vale (billed as "Anne Hunter"), Gladys Cooper, Edward Brophy, Turhan Bey, Arthur Shields, and Eddie Dunn. Note that George Sanders had starred in a highly successful series of movies based on Leslie Charteris' character, The Saint. However, Charteris often disagreed with any story changes made by RKO and with Sanders' interpretation of his character. Because of this (and to save on royalty fees), the 1941 film "The Saint in Palm Springs" was the last of the series produced by RKO. Instead, they made this film, which was obviously the exact same character, but with the name changed (and there were fifteen more in the series). Mr. Charteris threatened to sue RKO over this but the matter was settled out-of-court. Note that this is one of four movies that starred George Sanders as The Falcon. After the fourth movie, the role of The Falcon was passed from George Sanders (who had previously played "The Saint" in a series of movies, and who apparently had tired of this role, and wanted to leave) to Tom Conway (they played brothers in the movie and in real life they were brothers!; in a clever move, the script for that movie, "The Falcon's Brother" had George Sanders' character killed, and his brother, played by Tom Conway, shows up and solves his murder, and becomes the "new" Falcon; and Conway went on to make a total of twelve Falcon movies). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. There are pinholes, faint smudges, and a few tiny dot stains around the edges of the card. There are some faint horizontal scuffs across the bottom border art and title area. There is a pair of staple holes in the center of the card (in Sanders' neck) and a pinhole and tiny scratch mark in the bottom center newspaper area. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
