An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #4 ("The Terror Train") Special Movie Poster (measures 33" x 45 1/2") (Learn More) Ruth of the Range, the 1923 Ernest C. Warde, Frank Leon Smith & W.S. Van Dyke silent action adventure thriller serial starring Ruth Roland (in the title role as Ruth Remington), Bruce Gordon, Lorimer Johnston, Ernest C. Warde, and Pat Harmon. Note that Ruth Roland was second only to Pearl White as being best remembered from silent serials of the 1910s. She started in movies in 1909, but in 1915, after the great success of White's "The Perils of Pauline" the previous year, Roland starred in her own 14 episode serial called "The Red Circle", and she went on to make six more serials for Pathe, receiving the credit of "Produced by Ruth Roland Serials, Inc.". After 1925, she only appeared in three more movies, returning to the stage where she had performed before entering movies. She passed away in 1937 from cancer, at just 45 years of age. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. We would ordinarily think it is an incomplete three-sheet, but there are several problems with that! One is that it seems like there should be an added section at the bottom of the poster, and yet all of the litho information is in the bottom of the part that is there, and it would surely have been printed on the bottom of the poster. Another is that, even if there were a third section that goes ABOVE the words "Ruth Roland", then why does the poster measure only 33" wide? If it were a three-sheet, it should measure 41" wide, and that would mean there was a 4" blank border on each side, which seems WAY too much (plus the copyright information would surely be printed in the bottom blank area). Yet it certainly seems as though the poster is incomplete! I suppose another possibility is that it is roughly 1/4 of a six-sheet, but I doubt anyone knows the answers to these questions. In any event, please be sure NOT to bid on this poster unless you can accept that it may well be incomplete, and that we have no idea what it is, other than that it is an original poster from 1923! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. The poster had paper loss at all the crossfolds and creases, tears, and some tiny paper loss on the foldlines. It was linenbacked pretty well, but the restorer did not do any restoration to the areas of paper loss. I would think that a restorer could finish the restoration without re-backing the poster, but I cannot say for sure. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
