An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Camille, the 1927 Fred Niblo silent romantic doomed-love melodrama ("Joseph M. Schenck presents Norma Talmadge in 'Camille'"; "A Modern Version"; based on the story by Alexandre Dumas fils; this was the ninth and final silent version of this classic story; in this one, there is a cool framing device where a man buys a painting of a beautiful woman, and she appears before him and tells him her story, which is the classic story of a woman who sleeps her way to success, and then meets a forthright young man who she loves, but she knows their love cannot survive, and then she gets tuberculosis and keeps that fact from her lover, and dies tragically) starring Norma Talmadge (in the title role as Camille), Gilbert Roland (22 years old, in his fourth credited role, and without his trademark mustache!), Lilyan Tashman, Rose Dione, and Oscar Beregi Sr. Note that there was a sound version of this movie made in 1936 starring Greta Garbo in the lead role. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1927 movie paper from this silent version of this classic movie is incredibly rare. We have only sold one movie poster larger than a window card from this movie until we received this insert (and that was a one-sheet, and we auctioned it 21 years ago)! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had stains and smudges scattered down the left and right 2-3" of the poster. There were pinholes around the edges and some scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
