eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2g184 SHALL WE DANCE Belgian R40s great stone litho of Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers! Date Sold 9/5/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 10 3/4" x 15" [27 x 38 cm]) (Learn More) Shall We Dance, the classic 1937 Mark Sandrich romantic dancing musical comedy ("Control yourself! ...they're coming on skates!"; "Music by George Gershwin"; "Lyrics by Ira Gershwin"; about a male ballet dancer and a female musical comedy star who have a pretend romance in order to gain publicity, but of course, they fall in love for real!) starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, Eric Blore, Jerome Cowan, Ketti Gallian, William Brisbane, Harriet Hoctor, and Mantan Moreland. Note that this is the Astaire & Rogers movie where they dance together on roller skates! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very mysterious poster! This movie likely should have opened in Belgium in 1937 (it did open in other parts of Europe during that year), but if so, it seems that it should have had a poster in the large "pre-War" Belgian size. Yet, it is the very small size that one associates with being from some time between 1939 and 1947, when there were massive paper shortages in Belgium (when they both printed on the backs of maps and other posters, and also printed in much smaller sizes, in both cases to conserve on paper). So we are calling this a 1940s re-release (although it could of course date from 1939). But not only have we never seen or heard of this poster before, but we have also never seen or heard of any earlier release Belgian poster at all! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded in half and there is 1/2" of separation at the right end of that fold. There was a 2" vertical tear in Astaire's waist, and someone put tape on the back of that tear. The poster was printed on the back of part of another poster, and you can see slight signs of the bleed-through from the poster on the back in the yellow area to the right of Astaire's pants.
