An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37 3/4" x 56" [96 x 142 cm]) (Learn More)

Primaner (literally translates to "Schoolboy"), the 1934 German melodrama. The German poster shows what appears to be a high school student talking to his chemistry professor. We could find nothing about a movie with this title, but there is a 1934 Germany movie called "So ein Flegel", and since the plot of that movie is about two brothers, one in school and one in business who switch places, because the older brother did not go to school and wants to see what he missed, and because the tagline on the "Primaner" poster translates to "the fate of two young people", we think it is quite possible that the two movies are the same, but of course, that is just a guess. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Kurt Geffers
Important Added Info: Note that "pre-War" movie posters from Germany are virtually nonexistent (it seems likely that most were destroyed during the huge paper shortages that occurred during World War II). As is typical of pre-World War II German posters, the poster has a seal in the printing in the top left, which gives the date of "15 JAN 1934". We have never seen or heard of another example of this poster (not at all surprising, because there are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence, and most of those few are in museums).

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had tiny paper loss at just a few crossfolds and a very few creases, scuffs, and tiny tears on parts of some foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
