An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11 1/2" x 17 3/4" [29 x 45 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Thirteenth Juror, the 1927 Edward Laemmle silent murder mystery melodrama ("A thrilling melodrama that will hold you tense"; "From the play 'The Counsel for the Defense' by Henry Irving Dodge"; about a man who kills another man during a fight, and a third man is arrested for the crime; when he is put on trial for murder, the man who actually did it doesn't say anything, but finally, at the climax, he can't take it and he confesses, and he is let off on self defense) starring Anna Q. Nilsson, Francis X. Bushman, Walter Pidgeon, Martha Mattox, and Sidney Bracey. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: fair, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut, but it is extremely fragile and has separations and small tears on the folds and in the borders. It must be handled very carefully!
