An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 30 1/2" x 47 1/4" [77 x 120 cm]) (Learn More) L'Atlantide (literally translates to "Atlantis"), the 1932 G.W. Pabst (Georg Wilhelm Pabst) German/French fantasy horror melodrama (based on the novel by Pierre Benoit; about French soldiers who find the mythical lost civilization of Atlantis, and it is ruled by a queen who takes lost travelers as her lovers and then mummifies them!) starring Brigitte Helm, Pierre Blanchar, Jean Angelo, Tela Tchai, Georges Tourreil, and Florelle. Note that this had been a best selling book by Pierre Benoit when it was published in 1919, and in 1921, Jacques Feyder turned it into a very expensive and very successful French movie, with an elaborate recreation of Atlantis (filmed in the Sahara Desert). In 1932, G.W. Pabst wanted to remake it, and his studio felt that the best way to recoup the enormous costs would be to film it simultaneously in THREE languages (German, French, and English), with many different cast members! The German version is called "Die Herrin von Atlantis", this French version is called "L'Atlantide", and the English version is called "The Mistress of Atlantis"! Note that Brigitte Helm starred in all three versions, but her co-stars were different in all three! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Georges Annenkoff Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from the FRENCH version of this movie, which makes it a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie (as described above, it was filmed simultaneously in three languages, and was a French/German co-production). For this French release, the distributor chose to use an image of French male lead Pierre Blanchar over the German female lead Brigitte Helm, which is not surprising, because surely he would have been more popular in France than Helm. Note that first release items from any of these three versions are incredibly rare! We have previously auctioned two German programs and a Swedish stolpe from the German version, but never anything from the English version, and this French poster is the only item we have ever had from the French version! Condition: very good. There is 3" of separation at the left of the bottom horizontal fold, with 1" of separation at the left of the top horizontal fold. There are tiny tears and tiny paper loss in the top of the left blank border, and some darkening on the folds and around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
