An Unfolded Travel Poster (measures 16 3/4" x 24 3/4" [43 x 63 cm]) (Learn More)

Lake Placid, the 1930s (perhaps 1938) travel poster ("Up where winter calls to play"; "Olympic bobsled run"; "Operated by N. Y. State Conservation Department") encouraging people to visit the site of the 1932 Winter Olympics bobsled run, which was maintained and operated by the New York Conservation Department after the Olympics were over. This poster features Arno H. Scheiding art of four men in a bobsled. Note that to use the bobsled run, riders were required to sign a waiver assuming all responsibility for possible injuries and relinquishing all claims for damages.
Artist: Arno H. Scheiding
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning!

This comes from the same wonderful collection of 11 travel and skiing related posters that we auctioned in January (our consignor sent us two more separately from those and they arrived too late for that set of auctions)! Those were recently discovered in Canada after having sat undisturbed for many decades! We had only auctioned ONE of these posters one time before and the other 10 we had NEVER auctioned! All would benefit from restoration, but most are the kind that do not need a lot of restoration, and after being backed they will display wonderfully (and it is quite possible it will be many years before we again auction even one of these!).

Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded but it is lightly rippled throughout. There is paper loss in the top left corner and tack holes and a few stains around the edges.
