An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 1/2" x 15 1/2" [27 x 39 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) Fires of Faith, the 1919 Edward Jose silent World War I (WWI) Salvation Army romantic love triangle melodrama (based on the story by Charles E. Whittaker; about a farm girl who is raped and goes to New York City, where she lives in the Bowery; at the same time, a wealthy young man and his fiancee mock the Salvation Army, not realizing all the good it does; after many coincidences, the farm girl ends up a Salvation Army nurse in France in World War I, where the wealthy man is now a pilot, and he is injured, and she nurses him back to health, but surprisingly, they DON'T fall in love, but both end up happily with their respective mates) starring Catherine Calvert, Eugene O'Brien, Rubye De Remer (billed as "Ruby de Remer"), Helen Dunbar, Theodore Roberts, Charles Olge, and Evangeline Booth (billed as "Showing Commander Evangeline Booth in authentic scenes of Salvation Army activities"; Booth was the daughter of the couple who founded what was then called "The Christian Mission", but which became the Salvation Army in 1878, and Booth would eventually be elected as the Salvation Army's first female General!). Note that this movie was basically an "infomercial" for the Salvation Army, telling of all the good it did during World War I and at other times, and a fictional story was added to it to keep the audience's attention! Also, this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: J. Knowles Ware Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. All the pages are lightly rippled but they are not stuck together. Learn More about condition grades
