An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Circus Days, the 1923 Edward F. Cline (billed as Eddie Cline) silent juvenile young-boy-runs-away-to-join-the-circus comedy ("Jackie Coogan and a circus all in one wonderful picture"; "Adapted from James Otis' celebrated story 'Toby Tyler Ten Weeks with a Circus'"; "Presented by Sol Lesser") starring Jackie Coogan (as Toby Tyler), Barbara Tennant, Russell Simpson, Claire McDowell, Cesare Gravina (as Luigi, the clown), and Nellie Lane (as the "Fat Woman"). Note that this movie was remade by Walt Disney in 1960 as "Toby Tyler or Ten Weeks with a Circus", starring Kevin Corcoran. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that regular "heavy stock" inserts were first introduced by studios around 1922. But for a while around that time, studios made "double inserts". These were one-sheet sized posters (27" x 41"), on regular thin one-sheet paper. But instead of a single image, they had two vertical images, each with full credits for the movie! They were intended for frugal theater owners, who would buy a single such one-sheet and then they could cut them in half and have two posters for the price of one! Apparently, theater owners really liked these, because around that time, regular heavy stock inserts were introduced, and that marked the end of the special "double inserts". What is offered here is one of these very rare double insert posters. It is surely incredibly rare, as only a small number of "double insert" one-sheets are known to exist from any titles! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this is one of 17 linenbacked posters we were consigned that were damaged by water. All of the posters (which we are auctioning in 17 separate auctions) became wet after they were backed, and the owner did not discover it immediately, and they dried out, causing creases and cracking scattered throughout, and they surely have mildew and possibly mold. They ABSOLUTELY need to be removed from the old linen and properly re-backed (during the process, the restorer can kill any living mold or mildew), and afterwards, the poster can again be displayed, but this is a fairly expensive process, so please DO NOT bid on this poster unless you can accept its extremely significant defects and the cost of restoring it. It should be handled very carefully until it is properly restored. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor to fair. As described above, the poster was significantly water damaged after it was linenbacked. Our super-sized image gives you a good sense of how the poster currently appears. It absolutely needs to be re-backed by a talented professional, so please very much bear this in mind before bidding on this poster. Due to the poster's much lesser condition, it will not be returnable, so only bid if you are certain you want it. Learn More about condition grades
