eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result e004 SOME LIKE IT HOT Thirty by Forty movie poster '59 rarest Marilyn Monroe! Date Sold 12/18/2007Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (measures 30" x 40") (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that I have never seen or heard of this sensational poster before! I have sold virtually every size there is on this classic movie, from the complete set of lobby cards through the six-sheet, but this poster is COMPLETELY new to me! There is an image of Marilyn with a large "HOT" behind her on the style A half-sheet, but it is not the same as on this poster, and the word "HOT" is different. Of course, this poster also has the image of Lemmon and Curtis on the sofa which is not on the half-sheet, but it is on the title card. In any event, I am extremely happy to see a poster from this classic movie that I have never ever seen before (it rarely happens anymore with any post-1950 major movie). If anyone HAS ever seen this poster before, please e-mail me! Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. There are creases in the left center of the bottom border extending 2" from the bottom of the poster, and there is a tiny tear in the bottom border at that area. There are some creases and faint smudges around the edges of the poster, and a few scattered in the white and yellow background areas. There is a small brown stain in the extreme top left corner (in the blank white paper only). There is an extremely tiny area of surface paper loss in the right of the top edge of the yellow background area, and there is a 1/4" tear in the upper left blank border, with a thin sliver of surface paper loss beneath it. There is a 1/4" tear near the middle of the right blank border. There are three approximately 2" horizontal areas of surface paper loss on the back of the poster (located approximately equal distance apart from each other). It seems likely that there was some sort of brown paper tape on the back of the poster across those three areas, and that someone removed it, causing tiny surface paper loss across each of those three areas. THIS SURFACE PAPER LOSS ON THE BACK OF THE POSTER DOES NOT AFFECT THE FRONT AT ALL, AND YOU CANNOT TELL IT IS THERE FROM THE FRONT OF THE POSTER! Other than the above truly minor defects, the poster is in quite nice unfolded condition, and it has never had any sort of restoration on either the front or back. I think it displays fantastically just as it is, but certainly, any talented restorer could perform any degree of slight touch up one could want, and remove its minor defects. In any event, it will look incredible wherever it is displayed by the new owner, and I am already envious of the person who it going to get to own this incredible poster!
