An Original Vintage Linenbacked One-Sheet Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) a Bob Steele stock poster from the late 1930s or early 1940s. Note that theaters showing Bob Steele 1930s or 1940s movies would order this stock poster, sometimes overprinted with a specific title, and sometimes blank in that bottom area (where the theater could either place a snipe in the bottom white area or hand write in the name of the particular Bob Steele movie they were showing that week), thus getting many posters for the price of one! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that most "stock" one-sheets are not that rare, because they were used for many movies. But we have never auctioned this particular one from the 1930s before (although we have auctioned a number of later ones, most likely from the 1940s)! What is this stock poster? It was created by Monogram for use by theaters showing their 1930s Bob Steele movies. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area at bottom center. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they were sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. Sometimes stock posters are found with blank snipe areas. Most collectors consider them more valuable with a printed snipe attached, or with an overprinted snipe area. This poster was overprinted with the title "Trailing North", the 1933 John P. McCarthy (billed as "J. P. McCarthy") cowboy western starring Bob Steele, Doris Hill, Arthur Rankin, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Norman Fuesier, and Fred Burns What IS linenbacking?
