An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked British Quad Movie Poster (BQ; Quad Crown; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Fort Apache, the 1948 John Ford U.S. Cavalry Native American Indian cowboy western ("John Ford's Masterpiece of the Frontier!"; based on the James Warner Bellah story, "Massacre"; about a Civil War hero who is transferred to a western regiment, obviously based on General Custer, and he wants to have added glory by killing Cochise, but the local captain, played by Wayne, does not feel the Indians are in the wrong, but the Colonel persists, and many of his men are massacred, similar to what actually happened at Little Big Horn) starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Pedro Armendariz, Ward Bond, George O'Brien, Victor McLaglen, Anna Lee, Irene Rich, Dick Foran, Guy Kibbee, Grant Withers, Mae Marsh, John Agar (billed as "and introducing John Agar"), Miguel Inclan (as Cochise), and Jack Pennick. Note that this was the first of the three John Ford/John Wayne cavalry movies (the second was "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" in 1949, and the third was "Rio Grande" in 1950). Note that George O'Brien had been a World War I soldier and Navy boxing champion, and after he left the Navy, he worked as a stuntman, and in 1924, John Ford picked him to star in his silent epic "The Iron Horse". He became a major silent star, and worked consistently in the 1930s, and then he re-enlisted at the start of World War II, when he was over 40 years old! After the war, his old friend and mentor John Ford gave him parts in three westerns, including this one! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this British quad! Not only that, but the only other English items we have only previously auctioned are a half-sheet and a front of house lobby card. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and minor fold wear.
