Date Sold 12/14/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Limited Edition Art Print (with art by Olly Moss; 59/250; measures 18" x 24" [46 x 61 cm]) (Learn More) On the Waterfront, the classic 1954 Elia Kazan (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) crime union corruption dockworker romantic family relationship melodrama ("The truly great picture of the year!"; "A story as warm and moving as Going My Way... but with brass knuckles!"; "Add to the few... the very few... truly memorable screen performances! Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy in 'On the waterfront'... one of the few... the very few... truly great motion pictures!"; "Screenplay by Budd Schulberg"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; since both Schulberg and Kazan "named names" and co-operated with the House Un-American Activities Committee, some consider this movie a defense of informers; I consider it one of the finest movies ever made!) starring Marlon Brando (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Karl Malden (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Lee J. Cobb (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Rod Steiger (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Pat Henning, Eva Marie Saint (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; billed as "Introducing Eva Marie Saint"), John F. Hamilton (as 'Pop' Doyle), and Thomas Handley (as Tommy Collins, the boy who helps with the pigeons; in the movie, he kills the pigeons after Brando's character testifies, which was especially ironic, because young Handley's father was a longshoreman who was killed for opposing union corruption, and he was hired to feed the pigeons on the set, but then Kazan gave him a screen test and he won the role of Tommy; even more interesting, he never made another movie, but he grew up to be a longshoreman himself, and in 2002 was elected recording secretary of his union after the leadership was ousted for corruption!). Note that this one of only three movies (the other two being The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II!) that have ever had 3 different actors nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Olly Moss Important Added Info: Note that this art print has been hand-numbered 59/250! This is one of 2,346 auctions for Mondo/Alamo Drafthouse prints from the personal collection of Tim League, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Alamo Drafthouse! All 2,346 auctions begin on November 29th, and all close December 13th, starting at around 3:00 PM CST, a few seconds apart! All the prints are being auctioned by eMoviePoster.com, and will ship to the winning bidders from eMoviePoster.com, who WILL combine purchases into as few packages as possible (and they can also be combined with purchases from "non-Mondo" eMoviePoster.com auctions, only charging the actual cost of shipping, plus $3 for packing materials). Please know that 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go towards paying staff of the Alamo Drafthouse and paying debt and expenses accrued during the COVID closures. And eMoviePoster.com has slashed its commission rates, so that we too can do all we can to support this most worthwhile cause. Whether you are a prior collector of Mondo prints or if you have never purchased one of them before, you surely have a movie fan in your life who would like something unique under their Christmas tree this year (or maybe you want to give it to yourself!). Our deepest thanks to everyone who participates in this very special set of 2,346 auctions! Condition: fine. The limited edition art print is in excellent condition! An important note about the condition of the print in this auction (or, in the case of 25 of the auctions, prints). It comes from the personal collection of Tim League, and it has been carefully stored since it was first printed. In the case of all but 46 of the 2,344 of the prints, it is in wonderful condition, and likely looks exactly as it did when it was printed, and we give all those our "fine" grade, which is the highest grade we give (and which equates to most dealers' "mint" grade). In the case of a very small number of the prints (46 in all!), it acquired one or more defects, and in those cases we give it a lower grade, and explain in words what those defects are. If you like purchasing limited edition prints in wonderful condition, THIS is the auction for you! Learn More about condition grades
