An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Svengali (released in Germany as "Trilby"), the 1931 Archie Mayo hypnotism mind control romantic love triangle fantasy melodrama ("Based on the novel by George Louis Du Maurier") starring John Barrymore (in the title role as Svengali), Marian Marsh (as Trilby O'Farrell), Donald Crisp, Bramwell Fletcher, and Carmel Myers. Note that leading lady Marian Marsh was just 17 years old when this movie was made (John Barrymore had a habit of having extremely young female co-stars). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm]. Also note that although this still was "printed in Great Britain", it has full NSS information. It may have been intended to be used in both countries, but at least some movies have both these NSS stills and also English FOH stills with the same images, and we have never heard from a collector who saw the NSS stills in UK theaters. A knowledgeable collector suggests that these NSS stills were used solely in the U.S., and that perhaps studios printed them in Great Britain as a way to "use up" UK profits and avoid having to pay taxes.
