An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) Bullitt, the classic 1968 Peter Yates San Francisco California crime car chase action thriller ("The word 'cop' isn't written all over him - something more puzzling is."; "There are bad cops and there are good cops - and then there's Bullitt."; "Bullitt comes to this theatre soon. That ought to shake up the place pretty good. Not many freaky cops like Bullitt around. You look at the Italian shoes and the turtleneck and you have to wonder. You listen to the official beefs about 'personal misconduct,' 'disruptive influence,' you figure he's got to be up for trade. But when some rare Chicago blood starts spilling in San Francisco, they give Bullitt the mop. They weren't exactly doing him a favor. But they've done a great big one for you."; "Detective Lt. Frank Bullitt - some other kind of cop. Pity the guy he works for."; "Based on the novel 'Mute Witness' by Robert L. Pike"; about a detective who drives a 1968 Ford Mustang GT fastback while pursuing professional hitmen who murdered the wrong guy and let's not forget the really cool chase scenes!) starring Steve McQueen (in the title role "as Bullitt"), Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, Simon Oakland, and Norman Fell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: We have no clue what the story is with this poster! It is very similar to the non-advance U.S. one-sheet, and has the same writing at the bottom, but the color scheme is completely different. Given that the poster is clearly in much lesser condition, and given that the yellow that was in the top half of the poster is drastically faded, one might think that this is a regular one-sheet that has faded considerably, but I don't believe that could possibly be the case. Why? Because there are large background areas on this poster that have a "moire" pattern (a series of intentional large circular dots. Normally, a moire pattern is created when a screened poster is reproduced, but when that occurs, the pattern is even throughout the poster. Sometimes, poster designers use a moire pattern intentionally to create a different kind of effect, and it appears that this was clearly done with this poster in the background areas in the upper left and lower left and right. The poster IS severely faded. The light colored areas were surely dark yellow at one time (the top tagline area just above the image is still somewhat yellow, but the rest the formerly yellow areas are now mostly white). I do not believe the pinkish areas were once purple as they are on the regular one-sheet, although I suppose that is possible. I think this was a yellow and pink poster, and I have no clue why or for what purpose it was created, but it is identical to the regular U.S. poster as far as the printing of the black areas (including the copyright information at the bottom) so I feel it is surely a 1969 poster. If anyone has further information of any kind about this poster, please e-mail me and I will post it here. And please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above, and can accept the uncertainty about its origin! Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restored at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster is severely faded (see above where I talk about the fading). The poster was folded in half an extra time and also had its top and bottom blank borders folded back, and there was much wear along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster. The poster had a fair amount of restoration along all the folds and around the edges, and you can see signs of the restoration, even from a distance. But I think many people could happily display this poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
