An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8 1/4" x 11 3/4" [21 x 30 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Libeled Lady, the 1936 Jack Conway romantic love triangle newspaper journalism comedy (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; an extremely complicated story of an heiress, played by Myrna Loy, who sues a newspaper for libel, and the editor, played by Tracy, is afraid he will lose, so he hires Powell to catch Loy in a compromising situation with the help of his girlfriend, played by Harlow, who will instead temporarily marry Powell to make the scheme work, but of course, Powell and Loy end up actually falling in love, and everything works out in the end) starring Jean Harlow, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy, Walter Connolly, and Inez Palange (uncredited as the fortune teller). Can anyone imagine today's studios making a movie with so many top level stars? It is extremely rare to see three top stars in any movie, but this movie had four of the all-time greatest, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable movie!

Important Added Info: Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 8 1/4" x 11 3/4" [21 x 30 cm]. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

Condition: good. This deluxe still likely originally measured 11" x 14", and someone trimmed it to around the two figures (but we can't say for sure, because we have not seen another example). It has discolored in the bottom due to a snipe that was once attached to the back (see our images).
