eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6b040 AMBLIN' 1sh R1971 Steven Spielberg's very first movie about male & female thumb-trippers! Date Sold 5/1/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1971 Re-Release Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Amblin', the 1968 Steven Spielberg romantic hitchhiking travel adventure short ("He and she were thumb-trippin'."; "They had the makin's... and the tail-end of summer"; about a man and woman who are hitchhiking and who meet and become friends, and the movie has no dialog) starring Pamela McMyler, and Richard Levin. Note that the posters for this movie have "Denis C. Hoffman's Amblin'" printed in the lower right, and Hoffman was the producers of this short. Note that this was Steven Spielberg's very first movie, and he wrote it in addition to directing it. It briefly played at the Loews Crest Theater in Los Angeles in December 1968, where it was on a double bill with Skidoo, and we don't know if any posters were created for that initial showing (either individual or as a double bill). It was the winner of the Silver Phoenix Best Short Subject Award at the Atlanta Film Festival in 1969, and again, we don't know what posters, if any, were used to advertise that film festival showing. We have auctioned a single black and white one-sheet that predates the 1971 NSS re-release one-sheet, and feel certain that poster is from exactly 1970, because the R rating on the poster says "under 17 requires accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian", and in 1968 and 1969, the R rating age was 16, and it was raised in 1970, and therefore we feel that poster was specifically created in 1970, because there was a color one-sheet created in 1971, when the movie was re-released and distributed through NSS. Of course, Spielberg had great affection for this, his first movie, and he named his production company "Amblin" after this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that most posters from the 1970s are relatively easy to acquire, but not this poster! Why? We wonder if it didn't get very limited distribution, even in 1971 (especially because it was a short), and we wonder if theaters that showed it even bothered to order the poster. As noted above, if there were first release 1968 posters for this short, we have never auctioned any, and those who collect on Steven Spielberg movies all want a poster from this, and the only option is this one-sheet. We have auctioned only five examples of it over the past 18 years (most a few years apart), and the last example auctioned for $931. Condition: very good to fine. The poster has creases near the vertical fold that were caused when it was machine folded, and there are light diagonal creases in the left corners and in the middle left of the poster. Otherwise, it is in nice condition, and it has never had any sort of tape or restoration. Learn More about condition grades
