An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 46" x 62 3/4" [117 x 159 cm]) (Learn More) Les Quatre Cents Coups (released in the U.S. as "Francois Truffaut's The Four Hundred Blows"), the classic 1959 Francois Truffaut French New Wave semi-autobiographical troubled teen family relationship coming-of-age melodrama ("Angel Faces hell-bent for violence"; based on Truffaut's troubled childhood in France; Leaud played him as a young boy in this movie and went on to portray him in four other Truffaut movies!) starring Jean-Pierre Leaud, Claire Maurier, Albert Remy, Guy Decomble, Georges Flamant, and Patrick Auffay (as Rene) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Boris Grinsson Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this first release French one-panel, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, and only one in the last 12 years (that example was in lesser condition and it still sold for $985)! Also note that there is a tiny "6/59 Depot legal 59/2" with "25730" by that at the bottom of the poster. This means that this poster is from the first release in 1959, and that this is the second time the poster was printed. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and a few tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds, with some darkening around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. After the poster was backed, it acquired two scuff marks to the right of the bottom of the title and also a number of small brown stains in the top right corner. If I owned this great poster, I would immediately send it to a top restorer, who could remove it from the old linen and properly re-back it. However, bear all this in mind before bidding.
