An Original Vintage Folded French World War I Poster (measures 19 1/4" x 25 1/4") (Learn More)

Belle Lorraine, the 1871 French poster featuring Henri Royer art of a young Alsatian woman holding a rose in her hand and wearing a three color cockade on her bonnet. Note that the text translates to "Belle Lorraine, you have always loved France faithfully, and you will pin this rose on her victorious flag that her heroism has returned to you." This poster is likely referring to the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871). However, Germany was victorious and France was forced to cede Alsace and northern Lorraine. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Henri Royer

Condition: good. There is a tear in the right edge of the poster that has been repaired with tape from the back. It has some light dot staining throughout due to exposure to moisture. The staining is faint and could be dealt with through chemical means and it would look great if linenbacked, but of course please bear in mind the cost of restoration before bidding.
