An Original 1946 Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Paper Banner (measures 24" x 82" [61 x 208 cm]) (Learn More) Bernard Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra, the 1945 (released in the U.S. in 1946) Gabriel Pascal English Egypt/Rome romantic biographical historical epic ("Your eyes have never seen such lavish splendor on the screen before!"; "See... the most seductive beauty the world has ever seen - Cleopatra! See... the pleasure-mad revelry of pagan Rome! See... The mighty battle of the Nile!"; "The most lavish picture ever on the screen!"; "A Temptation in Technicolor"; "Days of Magnificent Adventure... Nights of Maddest Revelry..."; written by George Bernard Shaw) starring Vivien Leigh (in the title role as Cleopatra; she is billed as "By Arrangement with David O. Selznick"; "...famous 'Scarlett' of 'Gone With the Wind' ...more fabulous as Cleopatra, Queen of Queens" and also billed as "Vivien Leigh in her first great role since 'Scarlett' in 'Gone With The Wind' ...as Cleopatra"), Claude Rains (in the title role as Julius Caesar), Stewart Granger, Flora Robson, Francis L. Sullivan, Robert Adams, and Basil Sydney. Note that this movie includes a scene in the desert by the Sphinx, and it was impractical and far too costly to build such a set, so that scene was done with the judicious use of matte paintings! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the color inset image on this paper banner (see our image) was printed on a separate sheet and then attached to that area of the banner (this was commonly done with paper banners, and some 30x40s and 40x60s of this period). This is how the poster was created. Note that this item can be shipped in a standard size tube. However, the poster itself is extremely long, so it can't be combined with other rolled posters, which is why it is in this set of auctions of "very oversized" items. Also note that this is a paper banner that can be combined solely with other paper banners, but NOT with any other rolled posters in this set of auctions, because they would get damaged by being combined. Condition: good. The poster has scuff marks and creases scattered in various areas, typical of most paper banners that were once likely displayed. It has a few edge defects that are in some cases repaired with tape from the back. Learn More about condition grades
