An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Kiddie Kabaret, the 1929 Dallas M. Fitzgerald silent juvenile comedy short ("Jules Burnstein presents Ethel Meglin's famous Hollywood Wonder Kiddies"; "Recorded on RCA Photophone at Tec-Art studio Hollywood, Calif.") starring Sybil Lee, Peggy Delight, Dorothy Delight, Buddy Reed, and Lenora Bohen. Ethel Meglin is forgotten today, except by extreme film buffs, but she was the most important figures in the development of Hollywood child actors in the 1930s to the 1950s. She was a former Ziegfeld girl in feature films, who, in 1928, started "Meglin Kiddies", which was a school for children up to the age of 16 who wanted to become actors, and they were taught singing, dancing, and acting through classes that they took from Miss Meglin and her associates. There were surely lots and lots of similar schools both before and after this one, but Miss Meglin's success was hard to believe! Her two most famous attendees were Shirley Temple and Judy Garland (Judy Garland's mom couldn't afford the fees, so she played the piano at the school to help pay!). Others who attended were Scotty Beckett, Jackie Cooper, Darryl & Dwayne Hickman, Mickey Rooney, Ann Miller, Jane Withers, and many, many more (including the children who played in The Wizard of Oz)! This movie was made just a year after Miss Meglin started her school, and no doubt she convinced the promoter to make it, thus allowing her to get her students directly into film. It was followed by The Big Revue which was the screen debut of Judy Garland. Miss Meglin did not retire until 1962, and that was the end of her school. She certainly would make a great subject for a Hollywood movie about her life. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two lobby cards from this movie, and NO other movie paper of ANY kind. One of those two lobby cards has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of two items we have ever auctioned from this movie! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There are pinholes in the corners and stains scattered throughout the card, but they are not too distracting (see our images). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
