Date Sold 8/8/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Pointed Heels, the 1929 A. Edward Sutherland New York City Manhattan show business romantic love triangle musical comedy ("A Paramount all talking picture"; "By Charles Brackett"; about a chorus girl who is in love with a would-be composer, and there is a suave producer who is in love with her as well) starring William Powell, Helen Kane (billed as "Helen 'Sugar' Kane [the Boop-Bopa-Doop girl]"), Fay Wray, Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, Phillips Holmes, Adrienne Dore, Eugene Pallette, and the Albertina Rasch ballet group (who perform a ballet number with Fay Wray). Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY first release U.S. movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two lobby cards, two heralds, and some stills from this movie (and NO other first release U.S. movie paper of any kind) until we received this one-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss and tiny tears on parts of some folds, with pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
