An Original Vintage Linenbacked Australian Magic Show Poster (measures 13 1/2" x 30" [34 x 76 cm]) (Learn More)

Virgil: World Famous Magician and Company, the circa 1950s magic show poster used to advertise Virgil the Magician ("Gigantic Stage Spectacle!"; "World Tour Direct From America!"; "Featuring Julie America's sweetheart of magic"; "Hundreds of miracles"; "Entertainment for all!"). Virgil Harris Mulkey was an American magician who was born in 1900 and began his career in the 1920s. In 1930, Virgil accidentally injured a young woman named Julie Capriotti who came up to help him on stage. Through this incident they fell in love and married in 1931, and Julie became part of the show. In 1952, Virgil started a world tour (with 33 tons of equipment) which lasted five years. Returning to America, Virgil and Julie continued touring the U.S. and Canada annually through 1978. The couple retired to the home they had built in 1965 overlooking Boston Harbor in Olympia, Washington

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had the most minor of fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! After the poster was backed, it acquired some tiny brown stains in the lower right excess linen, with a tiny bit of it in the border of the poster (see our image).
