An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) No Father to Guide Him, the 1925 Leo McCarey family comedy short ("'Gee, Dad, you're a funny lookin' sight!'"; produced by Hal Roach) starring Charley Chase (primarily remembered as a great silent comedian who appeared in 276 movies, most of them comedy shorts, Chase also directed 140 comedy shorts), Mickey Bennett, Josephine Crowell, Jack Gavin, and Fay Wray. Note that this comedy short included a sequence where Charley Chase dresses as a woman (it was a comedy staple of the silent days for male comics to appear in drag, not as transvestites, but as a form of disguise, and another sequence where Chase loses his bathing suit at the beach and puts a barrel around his middle, and this image was the one chosen for the one-sheet). Important Added Info: Note that first release large posters from this movie are extremely rare. eMoviePoster.com has never before auctioned a three-sheet from this movie before we were consigned this poster, and we have also never auctioned a six-sheet! However, this was one of the posters that Bruce Hershenson sold in an amazing find of Hal Roach and Mack Sennett comedy one-sheets and three-sheets. Those posters were sold in the 1980s, and this is surely one of those posters, but it has never been in an eMoviePoster.com auction before! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had very minor fold and border wear. The poster had an odd printing defect, which is that the paper must have gotten slightly creased going through the press, which resulted in two horizontal creases in the lower right of the image that have fine surface paper loss on them and two much smaller ones just above the word "Roach" at lower center. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
