An Unfolded Australian Advertising Poster (measures 20" x 25" [51 x 64 cm]) (Learn More)

Telegram, the circa 1930s Australian advertising poster ("Nowadays it's the Telegram for swift, dependable communication."; "The romance of communication."; "Australia Post Office Communications"; "The arrival of Captain Cook at Botany Bay, N.S.W.") promoting the use of telegrams, and featuring Norris artwork of Aboriginal Australians using smoke signals to announce the arrival of British explorer James Cook, with a ghostly telegraph pole in the background.
Artist: Norris
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this really cool and historic Australian poster! It was printed on a heavier than normal paper (similar to that used for older U.S. half-sheets), and while it can be rolled, we would only put it in an 8" tube for fear of its condition lessening through rolling it tighter. We would strongly suggest that the winning bidder consider sending it in a large flat package, but that will be the choice of that winning bidder.

Condition: very good. The poster has some faint smudges and scuffs in the solid black areas. It has some creases, smudges, and a few tiny tears around the edges, with faint staining in just a few small areas of the blank borders. It was once attached to a mat with small pieces of tape on the back of the top border, and they are still present. Other than the above, the poster has survived in surprisingly nice condition!
