An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #6 (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Unknown Island, the 1948 Jack Bernhard science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy dinosaur adventure ("Spectacular! Living monsters of pre-history Alive before your eyes - In a hidden island in the Pacific!"; "Prehistoric Monsters of an unknown world invade the world of today!"; "So spectacular - It took one year to produce! See: Pre-historic denizens that defy the imagination! See: King tyrant lizards in deadly combat! See: Man's puny attempt to defeat monstrous beasts!"; "It's out of this world - Alive on a forbidden continent 60,000,000 years ago! Wonders never before beheld by man!"; "Colossal! A new world of adventures from a world of 60,000,000 years ago!"; "Alive--strange--stirring!") starring Virginia Grey, Philip Reed, Barton MacLane, Richard Denning, Richard Wessell, Daniel White, Phillip Nazir, and and Ray 'Crash' Corrigan (as the man in the really fake ape suit!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! Also note that the movie was released by Film Classics, and that this company was the original releasing studio for this low budget fantasy sci-fi movie (they also distributed re-releases of better known titles, but they did do the first release of some low budget movies of the 1940s). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have seen two versions of lobby cards from this early sci-fi movie. They are very similar, but the scenes are not exactly alike, and also, one has the "COUNTRY OF ORIGIN" in the lower right corner, and the other has the "COUNTRY OF ORIGIN" in the bottom border, with an NSS number printed in the bottom right corner (the ones with NSS are far more rare, and this is the first one we have ever auctioned). The most likely explanation is that originally the film was not going to be distributed through NSS, and cards were printed without NSS numbers, but then they made a deal (either before or after the first release began), and then cards were printed with the NSS numbers. We don't think it makes much difference, but if you do, know that the card auctioned here is the rare one that has the NSS number at lower right. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. As noted above, this card is from a different set than the regular set, because it has NSS numbers. On the "regular" version of this card, the "dinosaurs" are somewhat fuzzy, but on this card, the printing of them is not good at all. Obviously, the printers had not yet learned how to combine special effects images with non-special effects images, and this card is a real glaring example of that. Otherwise, the card has a horizontal crease 2" from the top of the card, and some pinholes around the edges. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
