A 1961 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Scipione L'Africano (literally translates to "Scipio the African"), the 1937 Carmine Gallone Italian sword-and-sandal historical war melodrama starring Annibale Ninchi (in the title role as Publius Cornelius Scipio), Camillo Pilotto (as Hannibal), Fosco Giachetti, Francesca Braggiotti, and Marcello Giorda. This movie deals with the legendary Roman battles against Hannibal, and Scipio was ultimately victorious. This project was championed by the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, and had Italy had a great director in 1937, this might have been an epic masterpiece, but all the wonderful directors fled both Italy and Germany, refusing to work under a fascist dictatorship, with the notable exception of Leni Riefenstahl. Note that the IMDb says that this movie had a U.S. release in 1939, but we have never seen any poster from that release, so we wonder if that is accurate. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Also note that this Italian one-panel was printed in Italy, but was intended to be used when the movie was shown in Arabic speaking countries. Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
