An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Television Still (Learn More) The Twilight Zone, the 1959 - 1964 Rod Serling CBS surreal bizarre science fiction (sci-fi) supernatural fantasy thriller television (TV) series narrated by Rod Serling and featuring an ever changing cast (different people in every episode, but a few people played parts in more than one episode) including Jack Klugman, Burgess Meredith, William Shatner, and many, many others. Note that this series got its start when Rod Serling wrote an episode of Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse in 1958 called "The Time Element". It was introduced by Desi Arnaz, who explained the fantasy element of the story and returned at the end to tell you what you had seen! A year later, The Twilight Zone aired for the first time. The show was very controversial, because Rod Serling added a great deal of social commentary to his scripts, but over time, this series has come to be regarded as one of the finest TV series ever, and decades ahead of its time. Important Added Info: Note that this still is from the first showing of the "Where Is Everybody?" episode of "The Twilight Zone". We know that for certain because it has the date "OCT 13 1959" stamped on the back from the Houston Post newspaper (the episode aired on 10/2/59. It is very hard to find stills from 1950s to 1970s TV episodes that are absolutely from the first release, and are surely not from a later re-broadcast, and this still is certainly very significant because it is from the very first episode of this most historic series. Finally, note that the screenwriter of this episode, Rod Serling, the series creator, put in a great tribute to Richard Matheson, who had written the novel "The Last Man on Earth". Earl Holliman is shown in a bookstore holding a copy of Matheson's book (and of course, that book helped inspire this episode), and it would not be adapted into a movie until 1964, five years after this show was filmed.
