An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Spooks Run Wild, the 1941 Phil Rosen juvenile delinquent horror comedy starring Bela Lugosi, The East Side Kids (including Leo Gorcey, Bobby Jordan, Huntz Hall, Sunshine Sammy Morrison [one of the original "Our Gang" kids]), Angelo Rossitto, Dave O'Brien, David Gorcey, and Dorothy Short (who was married to Dave O'Brien). Just about every horror fan is familiar with the brilliant move Universal Pictures made in 1948 when they tried to revive their tired Abbott & Costello movies by adding their classic Universal monsters (the first of these was Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and it was so successful that it spawned a number of sequels with Abbott & Costello meeting many other monsters!). But only advanced horror fans know that Monogram had already done something very similar to this much earlier, with this movie! In 1941, the Dead End Kids/East Side Kids/Little Tough Guys movies were getting stale, and Monogram had the great idea to bring Bela Lugosi in and make a "horror comedy". It was successful enough that they repeated the experiment the following year with "Ghosts on the Loose". So we wonder if Universal didn't get the idea for joining Abbott and Costello and their monsters from these movies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release lobby card, but that was in a complete set 31 years ago! Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had a pinhole in each corner and creases and scuffs around the edges, with some creases scattered in the image. Overall, the lobby card was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see slight signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
