Date Sold 6/25/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Elmer Clifton's Down to the Sea in Ships, the 1922 Elmer Clifton silent Massachusetts Quaker whaling seafaring romantic love triangle melodrama ("'Down to the Sea in Ships' is one of the greatest sensations ever brought to the screen"; "The most stupendous piece of realism ever photographed"; about the daughter of a man who insists she marry a Quaker whaler, but she loves another) starring Marguerite Courtot, Raymond McKee, William Walcott, Clara Bow (in her first time on screen), and James Turfler. Note that this was technically Clara Bow's 2nd film, because she was cast in a role in the early 1922 film "Beyond the Rainbow". However, many sources indicate that her scenes were cut from that film (and only added back for a later re-release), which would make "Down to the Sea in Ships" the first time she appeared on screen. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this card shows Clara Bow in disguise as a boy aboard a whaling ship after she ran away from home. We have only seen one other lobby card that features Bow (in a scene that takes place after this one) from this movie. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.
UPDATED 06/14/2020: Note that we have updated the Important Added Info section. Condition: very good. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
