An Original 1945 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 3/4" x 31 1/4" [60 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Pastor Hall (released in France as "Sublime Sacrifice", but this is not an "alternate English language title", because both those words mean the same in French as they do in English, and it was simply the French title), the 1940 Roy Boulting English World War II (WWII) Nazi takeover melodrama ("Daringly told! Brilliantly portrayed!"; "Based on a Story by Ernst Toller"; produced by John Boulting; the true story of a pastor in a small German village who refused to join the Nazi party and was sent to Dachau; "presented" in the U.S. by James Roosevelt, son of FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt; he persuaded her to do an uncredited introduction to his U.S. version!) starring Wilfrid Lawson (in the title role as Pastor Frederick Hall), Nova Pilbeam, Seymour Hicks, Marius Goring, and Brian Worth. Note that the Boulting brothers wanted to make this movie right after the real life incident occurred, but the English government told them they could not do so, because they did not want to offend Hitler! But once England entered the war, the government no longer had any objection, and the movie was made, and it was released to great critical acclaim. Note that the movie paper for the U.S. release of this movie was two-color and extremely bland (likely because United Artists, who released it, wanted to downplay it, because America had not yet entered the war, and some U.S. studios were still distributing movies to Germany), but there is an excellent French poster we have auctioned (and we have not seen movie paper from other countries). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Roland Forgues Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this is an extremely rare poster! We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning, and it is the first non-U.S. poster we have ever auctioned from this movie. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster has 4" of separation at the bottom of the vertical fold with small paper loss in the bottom border. It has small separation at the top of the vertical fold and tiny paper loss at the crossfold. The poster is slightly fragile, but after a simple linenbacking, it will look fantastic.
