An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) D.W. Griffith's Abraham Lincoln, the 1930 D.W. Griffith Civil War politics biographical melodrama ("The wonder picture of the century!"; "Greater than The Birth of a Nation"; "D.W. Griffith's Supreme Achievement"; about the second most famous President of the United States of America!; "Adapted for the Screen by Stephen Vincent Benet"; "Story and Production Adviser John W. Considine Jr.") starring Walter Huston (in the title role as President Abraham Lincoln), Una Merkel (as Ann Rutledge), Kay Hammond (as Mary Todd Lincoln), Ian Keith (as John Wilkes Booth), Jason Robards Sr., and Gordon Thorpe (as Tad Lincoln) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that original 1930 release movie posters and lobby cards from this classic biography are very difficult to obtain, perhaps because the movie received a major re-release in 1937, with new posters (those are undated, and they have often been mistakenly sold as being original release). The half-sheet offered here is a very rare original 1930 half-sheet! Condition: good. The poster was folded twice, and there are rough creases along both foldlines. There is tiny paper loss at the crossfolds. There are pinholes, creases, smudges, and small tears around the edges of the poster. There is tiny paper loss in the top border, and several areas of paper loss in the left blank border. There is a smudge across the bottom of the "HUST" of "HUSTON" and a stain in the middle of Merkel's credit. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the above defects. Note that the poster was roughly handled over the years, and was creased down the middle, both the poster and the linen. If I owned the poster, I would have it taken off the linen and backed on a paper backing. After proper restoration, this extremely rare poster would look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
