Stahl passing-for-white romantic tearjerker melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the novel by Fannie Hurst) starring Claudette Colbert, Warren William, Louise Beavers (one of the first black African Americans to achieve success in mainstream Hollywood movies), Rochelle Hudson, Ned Sparks, Henry Armetta, Baby Jane, Alan Hale Sr., Fredi Washington (a very light-skinned, very talented black African American actress who refused to try to "pass for white", and who appeared in several important black related movies including "The Emperor Jones" and "Black and Tan"; ironically, she had to have her skin darkened, so she could "pass for black"!), Marilyn Knowlden, and Juanita Quigley. Note that this movie was re-made in 1959 by Ross Hunter and Douglas Sirk with Lana Turner in the lead role! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this complete set, and that set has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only complete set we have ever auctioned! Also note that this auction also includes the printed envelope these lobby cards originally came with! Condition: good to very good. Someone incredibly slightly trimmed a tiny bit from the bottom left and bottom right border of each card (perhaps they were slightly too large for the frame they had). The title card has scuffing on Colbert's face and across the title card. The card with the double images of William romancing has stains in the girl's face at right. The card with Colbert and the little girl has many smudges around the edges. The other cards are in "very good" condition. None of them have had any restoration. Learn More about condition grades
