A 1953 Realart Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not restored at all. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had many tears in the area surrounding the top and middle crossfolds going through both faces. There was a 1/2" x 1 1/2" area of paper loss just to the left of the vertical foldline starting 1" above the middle crossfold. There were tears and some areas of paper loss on most of the foldlines and around the edges of the poster. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see some signs of the restoration, even from a distance. Still, even with the amount of restoration it has had, I would think many collectors would be happy to display this cool poster on their wall! Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
