Artist: Tom Jung Important Added Info: Note that this is the unfolded "NSS style" version of this poster, but unlike the "regular" NSS style, which has a dark blue background, THIS poster has a light blue background (it has been long referred to by advanced Star Wars collectors as the "teal background style", although we know that teal is not the right word to describe this color, which is a light blue, but it has been referred to as "teal" for so long that most collectors will recognize it that way!). We think it is surely a "test" poster (meaning it was printed solely to get people's opinion of the colors, and it would have surely been printed in a very limited quantity), which would account for its great rarity! We have heard from a very long time collector that he purchased it from the legendary Jerry Ohlinger's Movie Memorabilia Store in New York City in 1982, and he thinks that Jerry had multiple copies at that time, and that might be where the ones in the hobby originated from (and of course Jerry might have gotten them from a studio employee). We would think that after studio people (including likely George Lucas) saw this poster, they did not like the color at all, and immediately changed it to a dark blue, and we would be surprised if any of these light blue background one-sheets were distributed to theaters, and it sounds like some studio person did not want to dispose of them, and instead sold or traded them to Mr. Ohlinger! This poster is many times more rare than the ones with a "regular" background color, and the last example of this poster that we auctioned sold for $2,838! Condition: good to very good. Several of the known examples of this poster have a printing defect, which resulted in a strip of uneven coloring in the top and bottom background areas (there is a vertical area that is clearly a different color than the background to the left and right of it). This particular example has the above defect, but it is not as noticeable as on other examples of this poster we have seen. Please look closely at our super-sized image to see exactly what this is. The poster was never folded. It has some light creases scattered throughout. Learn More about condition grades
