eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result f312 AFFAIR WITH A STRANGER linen one-sheet movie poster '53 Jean Simmons Date Sold 2/7/2006Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Affair with a Stranger, the 1953 Roy Rowland romantic love triangle death-of-a-baby adoption melodrama ("'Kiss and run... that's the game you played... was it fun?'"; "Story and Screenplay by Richard Flournoy"; about a couple where the husband is a playwright and the wife is a model, but their marriage falls apart after they have a baby which is stillborn, and the playwright considers having an affair, but the couple adopts a child, which brings them together) starring Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, Mary Jo Tarola, Monica Lewis, Jane Darwell, and Dabbs Greer. Note that the title of the movie is not very fair, because Victor Mature never has an affair, just considers one, and the "stranger" referred to in the title is actually the boy they end up adopting, and the poster designers certainly were even more deceptive, presenting the movie as a love triangle! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had minute paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny paper loss and a 1" uneven tear just below the middle crossfold. There was minor wear on the foldlines and pinholes in the corners and in the center of each border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the tiny defects, but they are really not at all distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
