An Unfolded Dutch Special Poster (measures 16 1/2" x 23 1/2" [42 x 60 cm]) (Learn More) Aids Fonds is a Dutch organization dedicated to educating people about the consequences of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) which causes AIDS (Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome) and how to protect themselves from the disease. Aids Fonds' mission is to have a world without AIDS by 2030. Note that when AIDS gripped the world in 1981, local authorities, healthcare providers and governments quickly created health posters as a way to inform people about the new disease. These public health campaigns continue to this day, and the posters show the different tactics, images (some quite provocative) and messages used by various countries and health agencies in their attempts to educate people about the AIDS/HIV threat. In Holland since 2008 there has been a decreasing trend in the annual number of new HIV diagnoses to below 900 new diagnoses in recent years. This decreasing trend continued in 2017 with around 750 new diagnoses. The majority of new diagnoses continue to be in men who have sex with men, and in 2017 they were the majority (69%) of newly-diagnosed infections, while 23% were acquired through heterosexual contact and around 7% through other or unknown modes of transmission.
