An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Up the Academy, the 1980 Robert Downey Sr. comedy ("From the MADman who started it all..."; "'A comedy gone totally MAD.'"; "The education they got wasn't in books."; "Written by Tom Patchett & Jay Tarses") starring Ron Leibman (uncredited), Wendell Brown, Tommy Citera, J. Hutchison, Ralph Macchio (in his very first movie role!), Hutch Parker, Barbara Bach, and Robert Downey Jr. (uncredited; in his third movie role as a boy on the soccer team!). Note that this was intended as a "National Lampoon's Animal House" kind of outrageous comedy, and it made sense to have MAD Magazine's name attached to the movie (because MAD was at that time at least as well known as being an irreverent humor magazine as National Lampoon), but the movie was a major disappointment, and once he saw a preview of it, MAD Magazine publisher William Gaines offered to return his entire fee if the movie producers would take MAD's name off of the movie, but they refused, and it so soured him that he refused to make anymore movie deals for MAD! A few years later, when the movie was released to video, Bill Gaines paid Warner Bros $30,000 to cut out all references to MAD or Alfred. E. Neuman, which they accepted, so for many years that was the only print of this movie available, but the cuts were restored after Bill Gaines passing. Even more astounding, somehow star Ron Leibman, a very fine actor, managed to get his name completely removed from the credits! Perhaps he paid off Warner Bros as well!
