An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Letter, the classic 1940 William Wyler (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Singapore romantic love triangle murder blackmail crime film noir ("Fascinating, tantalizing and dangerous!"; based on the novel "by W. Somerset Maugham"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about an unfaithful wife of a Singapore rubber plantation owner who is spurned by her lover and shoots him, and then pretends it was an accident, and she almost gets away with it, but there is a letter she wrote that is incriminating, but can she get the letter destroyed, and what will her husband think?) starring Bette Davis (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Herbert Marshall (who had a lesser role in the 1929 version of this film), James Stephenson (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Frieda Inescort, Gale Sondergaard, and Victor Sen Yung NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had two extra horizontal folds, which are approximately 1" above the two regular top horizontal folds. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some creases, fine surface paper loss, and scuffs along parts of some foldlines. There were pinholes, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a thin linen with no excess, and at some point after it was backed, it was handled roughly and there is now a long partial diagonal crease in the bottom blank border, two diagonal creases in the bottom right corner, and a 14" horizontal crease in the bottom left of the poster (in the blank area below the title, extending into the edge of Maugham's credit). If I owned this great poster, I would surely have it removed from the old backing and have it properly re-backed, and afterward it would look great, and it would probably not require much paint restoration at all.
