An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked International One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Clive of India, the 1935 Richard Boleslawski romantic action adventure historical biography melodrama ("Courage was his only weapon - that and the love of a woman - neither failed him."; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Ronald Colman (in the title role as Robert Clive, who started as an East India Tea Company clerk, and who ended up winning India for England!), Loretta Young, Colin Clive, Francis Lister, C. Aubrey Smith, Cesar Romero, and Robert Greig NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is likely an international release for this movie. It does not have the usual 20th Century Fox copyright information across the bottom border, and it has a completely different image from the regular one-sheet. It is possible that it is a 1940s re-release, but there is nothing on the poster to indicate that. If anyone knows more about this poster or exactly when it is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top crossfold and tiny paper loss at the bottom crossfold. It had tiny bits of paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical foldline and minor wear on the other folds. It had smudges in the letters of the title, which may have been a printing defect. It had pinholes in the corners and a 3" scratch mark in the bottom center of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The poster has surface paper loss in the top of the "R" of "Ronald", and we think that this occurred after the poster was backed and rolled. Either way, a restorer could touch up that defect and the other defects described above without re-backing the poster. Learn More about condition grades
