An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) Important Added Info: Note that the last time we auctioned an example of this poster, it sold for $1,500 in "good to very good" condition! Note that a sharp-eyed collector has pointed out to us that the copyright date in the bottom left of this poster is "1960" and not "1959". We had never heard of this before, so we looked back at other images of one-sheets from SOME LIKE IT HOT, and we found that some have a 1959 copyright and some have a 1960 copyright. The ones with the 1960 copyright have slightly smaller type in the bottom copyright information than the 1959 ones, and the words "All Rights Reserved" have been inserted to the left of "Country of Origin U.S.A.". IN EVERY OTHER RESPECT, THE TWO POSTERS APPEAR IDENTICAL. It seems mostly likely to us that there were two print runs of the posters during the first release of the movie. LOOKING VERY CLOSELY AT THE TWO POSTERS, IT SEEMS VERY CLEAR THAT THE PRINTING QUALITY OF THE TWO POSTERS IS INCREDIBLY SIMILAR. However, we are certain there are some collector "purists" who would only want the "1959" version and not the "1960" version, so PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU DO NOT MIND OWNING THIS "1960" VERSION! Condition: good. Something happened when the poster was being printed (with the red printing plate), and the reds in the upper left of the poster are very uneven. It is as though the poster was printed off register, but that is not the case. The red just got messed up in some way. It is not that distracting, but certainly one must consider this before bidding (the winning bidder can either live with it or have it restored during linenbacking). Please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above carefully and looked at our super-sized image. Other than this odd printing defect, the poster has pinholes in the corners and the pins were roughly removed, causing paper loss in the bottom left blank corner and tiny paper loss in the top right blank corner. There is a pair of staple holes in the top left, in the top of the "M" of "MARILYN". Learn More about condition grades
