An Original 1938 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical French Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2" [32 x 39 cm]) (Learn More)

The Bride Wore Red, the 1937 Dorothy Arzner poor-girl-romanced-by-rich-man romantic love triangle marriage wedding comedy ("Her most glorious and exciting romance!") starring Joan Crawford, Franchot Tone, Robert Young, Billie Burke, Reginald Owen, and Lynne Carver. Like most of director Arzner's movies, this one dealt with a very independent woman who "goes her own way" in life! Also note that Dorothy Arzner was a director from the 1920s to the 1940s, and she was the only woman director during the "Golden Age" of Hollywood ('20s to '40s) and she was the first woman to join the Directors Guild of America. Arzner was a lesbian at a time when almost no females openly were, and she was surprisingly open about it, often dressing in "men's clothes" and wearing her hair short. She made many "women's movies" and movies with a "feminist" theme. After making "First Comes Courage" in 1943, she made training films for the U.S. Army WACs, and she never returned to making Hollywood movies, becoming a film teacher of directing and screenwriting, teaching at UCLA until her passing in 1979.

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned ANY French lobby cards from this movie! Note that we think it is extremely likely this is from the first French release of this movie, but there is a very slight chance it is from a re-release (we don't think this, because the re-release would have been after World War II, and we don't believe there were French lobby cards like this made after World War II). Also note that very early French lobby cards were like later Swiss lobby cards, where they would have a heavy stock cardboard background with information about the movie and a blank rectangular area in the center where they would glue a different still to each stock background, thus creating a set of lobby cards for less money than having all different cards would cost. ANY French lobby cards from before World War II are incredibly rare! Also note that this French lobby card measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2" [32 x 39 cm].

Condition: good to very good. There are circular holes in the corners that may have been put there when the card was created. There are tiny pinholes and some stains near that in each corner.
