A Vintage English Hardcover Book (measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" [11 x 17 cm]; 251 pages) (Learn More)

The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog, the 1927 Alfred Hitchcock English silent serial killer murder horror thriller starring Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney, June Tripp (billed as "June"), Malcolm Keen, and Ivor Novello (in the title role as The Lodger). Note that this was Alfred Hitchcock's very first suspense thriller (his third real movie, made in 1927), and Ivor Novello played the "Jack the Ripper"-like character (in 1935, the movie was remade by a different director, but Novello played the lead in both versions)!

Artist: A. Morrow
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this hardcover book! It makes no reference to the 1927 movie (and lacks a copyright date), but it DOES mention Ivor Novello on the cover of the dust jacket, so it was surely printed after the movie was released, no doubt to sell additional copies of the book to people who had just seen the movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.

Condition: good to very good. The first interior page is partially "stuck" to the inside front cover of the book (it could be separated by an expert or talented amateur using a solvent like Bestine). The dust jacket has some tears and tiny paper loss around the edges. The book itself is in pretty nice condition. See our many images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this rare book.
