Something Truly Different!"; "Books and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, 2nd"; a re-telling of Bizet's Carmen opera, with black African Americans in all the lead roles) starring Dorothy Dandridge (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Carmen Jones), Harry Belafonte, Pearl Bailey, Olga James, Joe Adams, Marilyn Horne (who provided the singing voice for Dandridge), and Marvin Hayes (who provided the singing voice for Joe Adams). Note that this was the first movie that Preminger hired Saul Bass to do the title treatment for, and he DID an image used on the cover of the pressbook, but he did NOT do any images for any of the U.S. posters.
